Human Performance Outfitters (HPO), has many parallels that track closely with a rock climbing metaphor - hence the outfitter theme where articles and equipment required are related to the climb training organizations must endure to reach the summit of creating and sustaining a learning ecosystem

Continuous learning is so much more than training, and as the climb becomes steeper and more challenging, the plot thickens. So too does the risk of failure.

Engagement Goal with HPO

The Summit
Sustainable, Continuous
Learning Ecosystems

With learning moments of need moving closer to actual work, we have no choice but to climb out of the traditions of training and embrace learning moments of need in the context of work.

Learning while in the context of work is a significant paradigm shift for many   is a very steep climb fraught with Change for the Training Organization as well as the stakeholder populations served.

The climb is a walk in the park for some organization and nearly a vertical ascent of other; the route must be planned and mapped in either scenario. Proper use of a complex array of specialized climbing gear and correct technique, method, movement, and often teamwork become essential skills for a safe ascent to the summit.

Being “ready” to climb does NOT equal “readiness” to climb.

The role of HPO is based upon assessing readiness, recommending gear, techniques, & methods for the ascent:

  •  Assessing readiness of the training organization & leadership's willingness & commitment to make the climb.

  • Identifying skill and competency gaps in those expected to make the climb.

  • Mapping strategy to close those gaps to ensure a successful ascent.

  • Providing skills, tools, and techniques necessary to reach the summit.

Outfitters are specialized. HPO is equally specialized.

This Outfitter has been up and down many a rock in the last thirty-two years of professional training, design/development, delivery, and learning leadership roles. From developing technology strategy roadmaps to implementing them – from years of traditional stand-up training to developing objectized performer support strategies – from performance consulting to managing and developing those who do.
