Workforce
readiness is a prerequisite for an organization’s
ability to create an operation that consistently
delivers sustained capability. Does
training have a role in creating this state of
readiness? Absolutely! Improving knowledge and skills
within the workforce are standard outcomes expected of
training solutions, and traditionally, what business
units demand of the training organization.
Unfortunately, in business environments characterized
by high velocity of demand and urgent requirements for
flawless performance in the work context, traditional
training approaches are falling short of expectation. To
meet these new demands, learning opportunities must
become as agile and continuous as the work they support.
Creating agile learning solutions require a new approach
– adoption of a new learning paradigm that integrates a
robust Learning Continuum.
The basis for
this new learning paradigm requires a new “design think”
in the creation process that places the learner AND
their work context at ground zero. The point of impact
is no longer the classroom or on-line courses. The
urgency that stems from sustainable work performance
converging with moments of learning need changes our
rules of engagement. For training solutions to meet
these new demands for agility, we have to meet new
criteria that include:
Learning solutions that provide
seamless, frictionless and ubiquitous access
to/from the right learning assets by the right learners
– during their moment(s) of learning need
– in work context-friendly amounts
– in compelling, readily-consumable formats
– to/from the right devices
Considering
these solution criteria, one key phrase – “moments of
learning need” – represents five scenarios every learner
confronts during their journey to competency;
learning something new; learning more of something;
trying to remember or apply something; when things
change; and, when things fail, break or go wrong.
The first two moments we already address in our
traditional formal training venues. The last three
represent our greatest challenge and opportunity, and
learners fend for themselves to figure it out while in
their work context…where urgency, risk, and business
liability are highest.
HPO in
partnership with MYCA Multimedia & Training Solutions
embrace the PDR Learning Continuum design
methodology, Prepare, Deploy & Reinforce to
address the entirety of each learning ecosystem. Of
these three phases, Reinforce is where we find our
greatest potential to contribute to driving tangible
business outcomes, and where MYCA stands apart from
other learning solution design firms. To effectively
serve all five moments of learning need, we pursue
in-depth discovery to extract client-specific work
context attributes of learner space, media mix,
and technology integration. We consider every
solution unique because every ecosystem’s
characteristics yield unique business demands and work
context variations.
Anything less is just
training as usual!
MYCA believes
the time has come to re-invent training to not only
deliver results expected but not delivered by long-held
traditions, and evolve our solutions to meet peaking
demands for learning agility in the work context. The
time has come to provide a continuum of learning that
contribute to workforce productivity in their work
context in pursuit of the ultimate business goal –
sustained capability.
